During your osteopathic treatment, your osteopath will take a thorough case history and conduct a physical, orthopaedic, and osteopathic examination.
Depending on your complaint, you may be asked to remove clothing, but gowns are available upon request.
After the initial examination, your osteopath will discuss their findings and preliminary diagnosis with you before starting any treatment. This treatment is guided by you and you do not have to receive any treatment you are not comfortable with.
Treatment involves hands-on techniques that assist your body to restore balance, alignment, and function. In addition to hands-on treatment, your osteopath may provide you with some exercises or recommendations to support your body and prevent future complaints.
After treatment, most people feel relaxed experiencing increased mobility and decreased pain levels. It is also common to feel tired after a treatment, this is your body adapting to changes that were made during treatment.
To support these changes it is important to drink lots of water and not stress your body too much after treatment.
Occasionally, you may experience a temporary increase in the intensity of your symptoms, this is your body adapting. If you are concerned or the pain extends 48 hours after your treatment please contact your osteopath.
